Perception is everything - Krieger and Manzarek back where it began.

Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger will attend the invite-only opening of Break on Through: The Lasting Legacy of the Doors at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 24. Held in honor of the Doors' 40th anniversary (which has also been marked by the release of a boxed set and an autobiography), the exhibit features items such as singer Jim Morrison's handwritten lyrics, a Robby Krieger guitar, a Ray Manzarek keyboard and various poetry books. The museum has collected materials from John Densmore, Krieger, Manzarek and other private collectors, marking the first time the surviving members of the Doors, along with the Jim Morrison estate, have approved of any kind of exhibit. After their Rock Hall appearance, Manzarek and Krieger head to the House of Blues where they perform Doors tunes with Fuel vocalist Brett Scallions filling in for the late Morrison. That show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets range from $20 to $200. The exhibit itself opens to the public at 10 a.m. Friday, May 25. — Jeff Niesel

Davenport's Debut

Parma Heights is home to a new indie rock club. Christened the Davenport (6287 Pearl Rd.), it has no relation to the Davenport collective of local bands. But it will feature acts of that ilk: the Saturday, May 26 opening night bill includes Bella Sylva, Pet Monster, State of Ohio, Tall Pines and the Very Knees, who are celebrating the release of a new CD single called "Super Bowl Sunday." The venue has a full bar (over 100 beers, with 10 on tap) and the capacity is roughly 400. The show starts at 8 p.m. FREE. — JN

Happy Birthday to Me

From 1978-1984, local scenester Sharon Lee Caddick put out a homemade 'zine called A Rag, A Bone, A Hank of Hair that detailed the doings on the local music scene, before she decamped for New York. Caddick, who's now moved back to town, continues to support local music: She's holding a birthday party for herself at the Jigsaw Saloon (5324 State Rd., Parma, 216.351.3869) at which she'll showcase three original local acts: Holmberg, a project by Moonlight Drive keyboardist Dave Holmberg which released its debut CD, The Dead and the Mad, in December; moody rock ensemble Morticia's Chair; and bawdy one-woman band Miss Firecracker. Latin Jazz Music Camp Returns

The Roberto Ocasio Latin Jazz Music Camp, honoring the memory of popular area musician Roberto Ocasio who died in a car accident in January 2004, returns July 10-13 for a third year at a new location: Baldwin-Wallace College's Music Conservatory in Berea. Aimed at students in grades seven-12 at all levels of musical ability on all instruments and voice, the camp will again feature noted professional jazz percussionist Bobby Sanabria as artist and teacher in residence. Students will participate in classes on various aspects of Latin jazz with Sanabria and other musicians, from Cleveland, New York and the Caribbean, as well as rehearsals, interactive jam sessions and performances. In addition, for the first time, there's an all-day master class for adults (college-age and up) July 10, led by Sanabria. Camp application deadline is June 1; master-class deadline is June 10. Legacy Goes Live

For the fourth year, Legacy Village shopping center (Cedar and Richmond roads, Lyndhurst) is offering its Legacy Live music series, with live local music from 7-10 p.m. every Friday and Saturday through summer's end, giving shoppers a reason to hang around, put down their shopping bags and enjoy the Legacy "lifestyle." On Friday, May 25, Dennis Sampson & Nightbreeze will play dance and R&B oldies; on Saturday, May 26, Back 9 will offer light rock.
