Share Our Strength Benefit Dinner At Lola, Le Petit Triangle, Countryside Farmers Market
It may have come a little later than originally anticipated, but Tartine (19110 Old Detroit Rd., 440.331.0800), John McDonnell's Rocky River wine bar, is every bit worth the wait. Nearly perfect in design, the slender bistro feels like an authentic slice of Paris. Inside, exposed brick walls and a boldly painted tin ceiling add warmth and richness to the space. Striking photographs of the Louvre, Palace of Versailles and Eiffel Tower, taken by partner and professional photographer Eric Mull, line the walls. A façade of French doors opens up to a charming front courtyard, uniting inside and out. The modest room seats about 40, including a dozen or so at the majestic 90-year-old bar. Tartine's wine list, a concise but exemplary catalogue of Old World-style selections, features about two dozen whites and reds, all available by the glass and bottle. Most cost less than $30. The wine-friendly and Mediterranean-themed menu features small plates, salads, sandwiches, pizzas and a handful of entrees. An open-face sandwich of ratatouille, goat cheese and arugula ($8) is delicious, as is a wild mushroom pizza ($10) dotted with leeks and doused with truffle oil. Tartine has been open just over a week and already has become a hotspot of sorts. Tartine is open every day at 4 p.m. but Sunday.
